Carsome eyeing $200m raise before US listing in 2022

Carsome, a Malaysia-based used-car marketplace, is seeking to raise about US$200 million in a funding round ahead of a potential listing in the US next year,” Bloomberg reported, citing people with knowledge of the matter.

Details:

  • The startup is reportedly currently working with an adviser and plans to complete the raise in the coming weeks.
  • Carsome’s representative declined to comment on the report, saying the company would evaluate potential financing and strategic transactions based on market conditions.

Dive deeper:

  • In September, Carsome raised US$170 million in a round that boosted its valuation to US$1.3 billion. The deal also includes US$30 million in credit facilities.
  • The company also faces fierce competition from Singapore’s Carro, which also went past the US$1 billion valuation mark after raising US$360 million in June. Both companies reportedly have plans to go public in the US. (Read also: Carsome and Carro: A neck-and-neck race to transform how people buy cars)
