- An alliance of 17 taxi groups is gearing up for a head-on battle against ride-hailing firm Uber with a forthcoming app called eTaxi.
- Hung Wing-tat, chairman of the Hong Kong Taxi Council, announced on Wednesday that the app will be launched in the coming months, with plans to ultimately include all the city’s 40,000 cab drivers in the service.
- Hong Kong’s cabbies were this week set to join Uber’s network, but they pulled out of the agreement yesterday. The US firm’s private-car ride-hailing is illegal in the city.
