Travelogy.com Acquires Nearby.sg

nearbysg travelogy

Exclusive – Travel-solution startup, Travelogy has acquired fellow Singapore-based startup, Nearby.sg. The latter is a startup that does location-based mapping and a points-of-interest directory in Singapore. The founder of Travelogy, Winnie Tan, commented on the deal in a statement:

The strategic acquisition of nearby.sg extends our multi-channel media platforms from web, print, and social media to the fast growing mobile and tablet space. We will be integrating Travelogy’s context-sensitive ad-serving engine with Nearby.sg’s location-based maps and technology to allow advertisers in the travel industry to effectively reach out to their target audience.

So what exactly is a “context-sensitive ad-serving engine?” Travelogy’s mentor, Eric Koh explained that it is essentially Travelogy’s version of Google Adsense in that the engine will take into account the user’s budget, destination, travel purpose, and other preferences to provide personalized ads and recommendations to them.

Travelogy.com now sees more than half a million visits each month and is seeking seed funding from strategic investors. Eric revealed that one of his target investors is Fritz Demopoulos who co-founded Qunar.com, a popular travel portal in China which received massive backing from Baidu last year. Coincidentally, Fritz is also one of the speakers at our upcoming Startup Asia Jakarta conference.

Travelogy did not disclose the acquisition terms.
