Grab to start delivering Foodpanda meals

Foodpanda - Grab partnership

Food delivery in Bangkok is getting a little easier as Foodpanda just announced a partnership with ride-hailer Grab for the Thai capital. GrabBike riders will now deliver orders from eateries on Foodpanda in the city’s central district, with other areas to follow soon.

“We were working hard on decreasing our delivery times to an average of 36 minutes in central Bangkok over the last couple of months,” says Alexander Felde, managing director for Foodpanda Thailand. “With Grab’s rider network and experience we will be able to drag down delivery times further.”

They’ll soon have to compete with UberEats, Uber’s food delivery service.

The service in Bangkok has launched in beta, but Foodpanda is exploring launching in other countries in Southeast Asia as well.

Elsewhere in the region, the duo will have to compete with UberEats, Uber’s food delivery service that’s available in Singapore, Tokyo, and Hong Kong. It’s expected to launch in Bangkok soon, going by job vacancies on Uber’s website.

Companies like Deliveroo, Grain, and Foodpanda itself also deliver food in Singapore.

Meanwhile in Indonesia, Grab runs GrabFood, which is available in Jakarta’s business district. Local competitor Go-Jek has been doing food delivery there for a while.

Foodpanda has had a tough time elsewhere in Southeast Asia, pulling out of Vietnam end of last year and leaving Indonesia, where Go-Jek’s food delivery offering dominates.
