TikTok is set to launch a stand-alone tab dedicated to mobile gaming on its platform, the Financial Times reported, citing people aware of the developments.
The new feature may be announced during TikTok Made Me Play It, the company’s first global gaming event. The company also said publishers are launching games on the TikTok app.
Featured speakers during the event include representatives from EA, VNG Games, NetEase Games, and HoYoverse. These executives are set to speak on a number of topics, including how TikTok plays a role in the success of recent game launches, said its head of global gaming Assaf Sagy.
According to the company, content revolving around gaming has been rising in popularity on its platform. Citing internal data, TikTok said that gaming content saw a 127% uptick in total views from January 2021 through October 2021. The platform’s gaming audience also grew 59% from July 2021 to October 2021.
In addition to gaming, TikTok has also been making moves in the music scene. It was recently reported that the ByteDance-owned firm held talks with international music labels to power its global music-streaming service.
