Animoca Brands rolls out edtech NFTs to empower educators

Animoca Brands, a blockchain gaming unicorn, and its subsidiary TinyTap have rolled out education-related tokens called Publisher NFTs.

Each Publisher NFT is linked to a bundle of educational games and interactive activities – called Courses – created by teachers on the TinyTap platform. The partnership will auction six of these tokens on NFT marketplace OpenSea on November 2.

“The auction of the Publisher NFTs is the first step in leveraging Web3 technologies to establish an alternative decentralized education system that fairly supports and incentivizes teachers,” said Animoca Brands in a statement.

Yat Siu, co-founder and executive chair of Animoca Brands, added that the company aims to “empower educators to build their own equity and accrue value, similarly to how NFTs are already revolutionizing art and gaming.”

Teachers who create content on the TinyTap platform can offer publishing rights for their Courses via Publisher NFTs.

Like traditional book publishers, owners of Publisher NFTs can manage and promote their tokens to share the revenues generated by their Courses.

These owners can either make their Courses available on TinyTap to share revenue from the platform’s subscription model or promote the Publisher NFTs on other platforms. They will then get up to 80% of the revenue generated by their marketing and publishing efforts.

Animoca Brands announced its foray into the edtech segment by acquiring TinyTap for nearly US$39 million in June. TinyTap’s no-code platform enables its users to create and distribute interactive educational content.
