Singapore is set to welcome representatives from top AI companies – including OpenAI and Cursor – in a 24-hour hackathon.
Cursor Hackathon Singapore, which will take place on October 18 at the Singapore University of Technology and Design, has received over 1,000 sign-ups, ranging from first-time builders and students to experts and executives.
The hackathon has secured backing from OpenAI, Anthropic, DeepMind, Cursor, and Supabase, among other firms. Professionals from these companies – including OpenAI’s Hee Jin Cho and Cursor’s Lee Robinson – will provide mentorship, judge demos, and give access to AI coding tools.
The event also offers a prize pool reaching over US$100,000.
“It’s the first time you’ll see all these AI leaders in one place. Even in the US, that never happens,” Agrim Singh, co-organizer of the Cursor Hackathon, said in a statement. He also highlighted how the event signals that Singapore’s talent is on the radar of the world’s top AI companies.
The hackathon comes amid Singapore’s high adoption of AI tools. Previous reports have indicated that one in four people in the country use ChatGPT weekly.
OpenAI established its Singapore office in late 2024. The company plans to expand its headcount in the city-state from 30 to 50 by the end of this year.
