Tesla gets green light to make or import 4 models in India

“Tesla is closer to making its official debut in India after it received approval to make or import four models in the South Asian nation,” Bloomberg reported.

Details:

• The country’s Ministry of Road Transport and Highways deemed the vehicles safe and roadworthy. Tesla’s Model 3 and Model Y are reportedly among the approved models.
• This could pave for Tesla’s entry into India, where electric vehicles currently have a 1% share in annual car sales.

• The move comes as India mulls slashing import duties on electric cars worth less than US$40,000 to as low as 40% from 60%. The tax rate for those above US$40,000 may be reduced to 60% from 100%.
• It was also reported earlier this year that Tesla is moving closer to sell its cars in Singapore after receiving a pre-delivery inspection approval from the city-state’s Land Transport Authority.
