Google Brings Search Stories To Taiwan, Wants More Taiwanese Searchers

Google Search Stories are fun to watch. Many of you would probably remember the Parisian love story video which later became a Super Bowl commercial last year. The search engine even came out with a search story creator for users to create their own Google journey.
And now there’s one for Taiwan too. I stumbled upon a Google Search Stories site built especially for Taiwanese in traditional Chinese. Google Taiwan is apparently trying to get local netizens to give its video search stories a shot, in the hope that it might convince them to be loyal Google searchers.
Here are some interesting Search Story videos I saw there:
My First Valentine Day
Brief: This video is similar to Parisan Love. YouTuber MrHenryLin prepares for his first Valentine’s Day date and uses Google to find a restaurant, create a surprise, and find a gift.
Ceremony Under Water
Brief: YouTuber Yingfu613 created this video in English using the Google Taiwan search engine. She is searching for ways to make her underwater wedding a success.
Google is huge in Taiwan but Yahoo is still number one
Taiwanese tend to use “Google” as a verb to search. But the actual search engine that most Taiwanese use isn’t Google. It’s Yahoo.
Some time ago, I had a conversation with a group of friends from the computer science department of NCKU (one of the top five universities in Taiwan) about Yahoo and Google in Taiwan. To them, Google was cool but Yahoo’s search capability in traditional Chinese was far superior.
