Indonesian Telco Telkomsel to Host Start-up Bootcamp

Indonesian telco operator Telkomsel (NYSE:TLK) will be hosting a program called Telkomsel Start-up Bootcamp. This is a workshop where Indonesian talents with various expertise (entrepreneurs, developers, designers, marketers, or start-up enthusiasts) meet together and collaborate to create innovative business ideas that work globally.

The three-day event will combine a seminar with intensive group discussion and mentoring, generating ideas and prototypes to be pitched in front of the judges at the end of the day.

The winning team will participate in the 100-day JFDI-Innov8 2012 Start-up Bootcamp in Singapore. The Joyful Frog Digital Incubator (JFDI) is an incubator based there that supports and accelerates Asian start-ups. Readers may recall that we wrote about JFDI back in September.

Registration for Start-up Bootcamp is very simple, and all ideas will be reviewed, but only a lucky 100 persons will actually get into the bootcamp. You can register from October 25th to November 11th. So if you are in Indonesia, you still have a few days left. There’s an entrance fee (about US$ 22), but only after you’re notified that you’ve gotten into the bootcamp.

Marcella Dewi, the head of partnership and alliance development and management of at Telkomsel says the company sees start-ups as new trend, something that has been growing fast in Indonesia. Young entrepreneurs these days identify with digital technologies they use, setting them apart with more ‘traditional’ entrepreneurs.

Telkomsel is the largest telco operator in Indonesia, with more than 105M subscribers. You may be wondering why this Indonesian company is partnering with a Singapore-based incubator. JFDI-Innov8 2012 Start-up Bootcamp is hosted by JFDI and Singtel Innov8, and Singtel is one of Telkomsel’s shareholders.
