JFDI: We’re Going To Create Success In 3 Ways

Update: Fresh from the oven, thanks to Erin — JFDI announced a piece of news that will skyrocket the attendance of the upcoming Startup Weekend Singapore held from 14 to 16 October . The winner will be guaranteed a place at JFDI–Innov8 2012 Bootcamp. Interested? You can sign up for Startup Weekend Singapore here.

jfdiFunds and accelerators are mushrooming in Southeast Asia, and that’s good news for budding entrepreneurs in the region.

The latest in Singapore is JFDI, which yesterday announced its partnership with Innov8, a Singtel venture arm whose portfolio includes Bubble Motion, Stream Media, and 2359 Media. The partnership will allow JFDI’s start-ups to tap on SingTel’s access to regional markets and resources.

So what’s JFDI all about? It’s a start-up accelerator that turns ideas into actual ‘investable’ businesses through its 100-day bootcamp program. It is also part of the TechStars network, and JFDI hopes to replicate its 70 percent success rate from converting an idea into a business. How does JFDI plan to do that? We asked, and they answered, in three points below:

  1. Ruthless customer focus. We develop customers first and products second.
  2. Rapid cycle iteration following the lean startup/agile development model
  3. Intensive mentoring from people who have succeeded before

We look for hackers and makers – artists, designers, developers, engineers.

The brains behind JFDI are Meng Wong and Hugh Mason. They will be touring around Southeast Asia, India (Delhi), and Australia (Melbourne) to host Startup Weekend and to headhunt folks to join their 100 day bootcamp. You can apply online for the bootcamp here. After the bootcamp, the founders are expected to complete their product and will pitch for investment.

The first Startup Weekend will be hosted in Singapore on October 14.
