30+ Tech Stories in Asia You May Have Missed

What happened in the technology scene in Asia last week? Here are five must-read stories and another 27 below to catch up and get ready for the week ahead.

Last weekend, Julian and I were at Jakarta, Indonesia to attend East Ventures’s ‘Jakarta Ventures Night’. Live blogging and tweeting about the start-ups were fun until the entire Hyatt Hotel’s Wi-Fi went down. We managed to resume blogging thanks to Teknoup’s Founder, Citra, who kindly helped us gain connection through his iPhone 3G hotspot. Teknoup had also recently received seed funding from East Ventures.

Last week was also a week which saw many Internet giants played their part in helping the earthquake victims in Japan. Do check out Rick Martin’s comprehensive help list. We also introduced start-ups RockTo from Indonesia, Artyii from Singapore, EZTable from Taiwan and a long list of Indonesia start-ups during East Ventures’s event. Lastly, we are honored to help promote Twestival Singapore which will take place this Thursday, 24 March.

2. East Ventures Jakarta Ventures Night: Here’s the long list of start-ups which were covered during the event. We missed a couple but we’ll cover them this week.

4. 29 Students Raised $18,000 via Social Media: A total of $17,900 was raised by students. The trip which lasted from Feb. 18 – 27, relied solely on social media — the blogs, tweets, and status updates of the students who hail from cities across the world — to capture an audience that donated generously in exchange for their content.

5. Carlsberg’s Streaker Interactive Game: To kick off the Hong Kong Rugby Sevens, official beer sponsor Carlsberg and Euro RSCG Hong Kong have created an interactive online game to get word-of-mouth going. Try it, it’s pretty fun!
