How the Tech in Asia conference has grown since its inception

With the fifth anniversary of our Tech in Asia Singapore conference just around the corner in April this year, this is an apt moment to take a stroll down memory lane and look back at how the conferences have evolved since it all began in 2012.

For those of you who have been with us since the beginning, Startup Asia might sound familiar to you – it was the name of the conference we bid goodbye to in order to streamline our products. Thankfully, this important cosmetic change wasn’t the only improvement we’ve made.

Along the journey, we’ve brainstormed ways to give even more value for all attendees. Some of these initiatives include, but aren’t limited to:

  • the ever-popular signature Speed Dating segment for startups and investors to efficiently get to know each other,
  • the upcoming Investor’s Stage exclusively for investors,
  • accommodating the growing crowd by moving to a larger venue from the heartlands in Paya Lebar Singapore Post center to the swanky Suntec City Convention Centre in town, and
  • responding to demand for an even more diverse content offering with the introduction of our six content stages late last year in Jakarta.

We introduced new initiatives. We modified existing conference highlights such as reducing the number of Arena finalists. And not forgetting, we retired Startup Asia Bandung as soon as we realized it wasn’t effectively serving our audience needs.

Here’s a look at the past few years in a nutshell:

As we continually grow in tandem with the region’s tech ecosystem, 2016 marks an exciting chapter for us at Tech in Asia. This year, we’re bent on helping to create a community more diverse than before. After all, it’s the differing perspectives we each can offer that help us learn and progress.

This is why we are welcoming 5,000 attendees across all nationalities this year. It’s also why we’re making space for more startups to exhibit at Bootstrap Alley, meeting with more inspiring women and inviting more developers to share their expertise with us.

Startup Asia 2012 in Singapore had a humble beginning of 870 attendees. Five years on, things are looking different:

In 2015, we undoubtedly had one of the most memorable years in the history of Tech in Asia conferences, and captured the highlights here. But this year will be an even better story.
