I’m Sau Sheong, director of engineering at PayPal. Ask me anything!

 Hi TIA Community.

I’m Sau Sheong, enthusiast programmer, author and occasional speaker at various developer conferences. In my day job, I work as the Director of Global Consumer Engineering in PayPal.

I’ve been in the tech industry for the past 21 years, spending time mostly in software application development. I’m active in the Ruby and Go developer communities, often speak at meetups and conferences and have written 3 Ruby books and a Go book.

Some interesting facts about me:

• While I’m mostly involved in the Ruby and Go communities but I was also one of the founding members of the Singapore Java Users Group way back in the mid to late 1990s
• Many people know me through the developer communities but I’ve spent most of my professional life in building and managing software development teams
• Some people affectionately call me ‘Codefather’ because I’m often the oldest guy in the room still writing code on a regular basis
• I have a Masters degree in Commercial Law, and am a certified arbitrator even though I’ve not arbitrated any cases yet
• I am a secret origamist and love to fold paper to create origami sculptures. I have yet to form or join a origami meetup group!
