Derek Tan, co-founder of Singapore-based short premium content platform Viddsee, has stepped down from his executive role as its chief business development officer.

It’s unclear whether there will be a replacement. He will transition to a non-executive director role on the board.

Tan founded Viddsee in January 2013, alongside CEO Ho Jia Jian.

During his tenure, Tan played a critical role in Viddsee’s mission to promote narratives and empower diverse voices in this digital era, according to a statement.

Besides showcasing short films from Asian creators, Viddsee has also developed some of them into longer-form pieces. To date, its collection of more than 5,000 films has amassed over 3 billion views, the company said.

Viddsee doesn’t charge a subscription fee but generates revenue through content partnerships and licensing.

Home is Where the Heart Is, a short film that it co-produced, was adapted into an eight-episode series by Mediacorp and streamed by Netflix earlier this year. Viddsee’s previous partners include Singapore Airlines, Vidio, Mediacorp, Vision+, and Qalbox.

According to Tech in Asia data, Viddsee has raised US$2.3 million across two funding rounds.
