Lazada ropes in former Ant exec as head of payments

Lazada, an Alibaba-owned ecommerce giant, has appointed former Ant Financial executive Dayong Zhang as its new head of payments.

Experience:

• Most recently, Zhang was the general manager of Southeast Asia at Alipay before serving as the company’s director for research and development.
• He has also worked at Nokia Siemens Networks as a product line manager for about five months.

More details:

• Zhang is expected to lead Lazada’s growth in the payments business by strengthening its competitive advantage in the space.
• In June 2020, Lazada named Chun Li as its new group CEO, replacing Pierre Poignant, whose digital consumer products platform raised US$150 million in a financing round led by Target Global.
