India Roundup: Tata to take on Nykaa with new platform, and other news
Tata Digital plans Nykaa-like beauty platform
- Tata Digital will soon launch an exclusive platform for beauty and cosmetic products, according to a report by The Economic Times. This puts the digital arm of salt-to-software conglomerate Tata Group in direct competition with IPO-bound Nykaa, as well as with other established names such as Purplle and MyGlamm.
- The platform will be a separate offering from Tata Cliq, which also carries other types of merchandise such as apparel and electronics on top of its beauty products.
- The move is seen as another step in Tata Digital’s plans to create a super app. To this end, the company has already picked up stakes in online grocery player BigBasket, fitness platform CureFit, and e-pharmacy 1mg.
Ola sells US$150 million worth of electric scooters in 2 days
- Ola Electric said it has reached nearly US$150 million in combined sales for its electric scooters, which was only available to purchase for 48 hours.
- In a blogpost, the company claims that the 48-hour offering saw one of the highest sales figures in a day for a single product in Indian ecommerce history.
- The ride-hailing giant is currently building a 500-acre plant focused on manufacturing electric two wheelers. At a full production capacity of 10 million vehicles annually, Ola says that the plant will be the world’s largest two-wheeler factory.
