Pops Worldwide Licenses Up to 90% of the Vietnamese Music on Youtube

Since September 2008, Pops Worldwide has been slowly accumulating the licenses and distribution rights for much of Vietnam’s music. The company, which specializes in both producing mobile apps as well as licensing and publishing media, is now the main licensee of Vietnamese music on Youtube. That amounts to hundreds of Vietnamese artists including such names as Dam Vinh Hung and My Tam.

A press release today from Pops Worldwide reveals they are the main distributors of Vietnamese music on Youtube, and the company also announces several that they provide for other music services including Spotify, iTunes, Amazon, and Deezer (a French music service). That’s right, Spotify. So that means any Vietnamese music you’re hearing on any of these above services, it’s probably put up there by Pops. These are deals that Pops has been working on for a while and Esther Nguyen, founder and CEO at Pops, is proud to say that:

Pops currently licenses anywhere from 80 to 90 percent of the official music content in Vietnam. This allows Vietnamese artists to get another revenue stream for their content. Most of these ads are actually from countries outside of Vietnam, that are interested in the Vietnamese market.

This is a big step for copyright in Vietnam and respect for content as a whole. It cuts into the rampant piracy and allows artists to get paid for their work online. It’s also a big plus for Pops, since they get a percentage of the ad revenue that artists get from ads that appear next to their videos.
