Funds raised from the financing round will be used to increase hiring in the company, expand its market reach, and develop new technologies. It will also invest in talent cultivation across Southeast Asia, with a focus on establishing new training facilities.

Launched in 2017, RSG is a professional esports company that manages teams across Singapore, Malaysia, and Vietnam. Its esports teams specialize in games including Mobile Legends, PUBG, Call of Duty, and Warcraft, and have participated in over 200 tournaments.

“While the US and China currently lead the global gaming industry, the growth journey for Southeast Asia’s esports sector has only just begun, and we are proud to be one of the first movers supporting the local esports industry,” said William Cao, managing partner of FrontSight Capital. “We will continue to keep an eye on similar strategic investments in suitable esports organizations to reap synergistic benefits for all stakeholders.”

RSG aims to reach a gaming audience of 150 million in Southeast Asia by 2021 by expanding into newer emerging markets. It has partnered with companies such as Pizza Hut, Secretlab, Legion, Yoodo, and Scape.

It has also hired former Team Flash executive Bobby Sim. Sim had managed community and player relations for the esports firm, whose teams are super popular on FIFA Online and Fortnite, among others.
