With the Monetary Authority of Singapore’s (MAS) in-principle approval for Atome to operate as a major payment institution, the company may offer domestic and cross-border money transfers as well as account issuance and merchant acquisition services.

Leanne Lim, regional head of compliance at Atome, said the company will be working with MAS, its merchant partners, and its consumers to bolster the city-state’s payment ecosystem.

Another company to receive a similar license is Circle Internet Financial, the issuer of stablecoins USD Coin and Euro Coin. MAS also recently gave out in-principle approvals for capital market services licenses to HashKey Capital Singapore and Wise.

These licenses were handed out after MAS published the Financial Services Industry Transformation Map 2025, which highlights the institution’s plans to make Singapore a global financial hub.
