US probes Shein on forced labor concerns

Fast-fashion giant Shein is under the microscope of US authorities for allegedly sourcing raw materials linked to forced labor, Bloomberg reported.

US senators have written to the China-based company seeking information about its presence in Xinjiang, an area whose products are banned from import into the US as they are believed to be made with forced labor.

Shein has 30 days to respond to the senators’ letter.

The firm told Bloomberg that it has “zero tolerance against forced labor.” It added that it runs third-party checks of its suppliers to ensure compliance with labor laws.

Shein’s business has already been subject to probes for allegations of environmental damage and copyright theft.
