Hmlet rebrands to Habyt, names ex-Uber head as APAC CEO

Singapore-based Hmlet has rebranded to Habyt, following its merger with the German company of the same name in April 2022.

The firm has also named former Uber and CloudKitchens executive Jonathan Wong as its Asia-Pacific CEO. He replaces Giselle Makarachvili, who announced earlier this month that she had stepped down from her post to focus on family.

Wong will spearhead Habyt’s presence across Asia. He will focus on deepening the company’s footprint in its current locations, enhancing customer experience, and delivering commercial success for the firm’s real estate partners.

Speaking on the rebrand in a press statement, Wong said it is “the next logical step following last year’s merger and will enable us to retain all the best parts of the strong Hmlet legacy.”

Hmlet’s transition to Habyt will be gradually rolled out over the coming months in Asia Pacific, the new CEO added.

Hmlet previously made job cuts and axed its business in Australia when the pandemic hit. Following the merger, the company currently operates over 30,000 units across 50 cities in Asia and Europe.
