Singapore startup Seppure gets $2.6m from SOSV, 500 Startups, SGInnovate, others

Singapore-based startup Seppure, which creates sustainable solutions for separating chemical mixtures, has secured US$2.55 million in a seed round led by US-based hardware investor SOSV.

Entrepreneur First, 500 Startups, SGInnovate, Belmond Capital, Rekanext, Nanyang Technological University chairman Koh Boon Hwee, along with several other prominent investors, also participated in the round.

Founded last year, the startup looks to eliminate the need for heat when separating chemical mixtures, using sustainable nanofiltration solutions, which require minimal energy, instead. According to Seppure, current separation technologies like evaporation and distillation eat up to 15% of the world’s energy on a global scale.

“Much of our current world’s energy resources are consumed in inefficient processes,” said Mohammad Farahani, co-founder and CEO of Seppure.

The firm, which came through SOSV’s Hax program in Shenzhen, looks to use the new funds to scale the production of chemical-resistant nanofilters and run industrial-scale pilots with potential customers across multiple industries.

Farahani, together with Seppure technical advisor Neal Tai-Shung Chung, developed the startup’s core technology after receiving a grant from the National Research Foundation of Singapore a few years ago.

The company claims its technology can now be used across multiple industries such as food, pharmaceuticals, petrochemicals, and oil and gas.
