Carousell has appointed JJ Ang as its new CFO. He previously held the same role at two large ecommerce platforms, Indonesia’s GudangAda and Vietnam’s Sendo.
Ang is committed to bringing “impactful financial strategies” that will position Carousell for long-term growth and success, he said in a LinkedIn post.
He succeeded Edwin Chan, who had been the company’s CFO since June 2021 after leading gaming titan Razer. Chan will remain at Carousell as an advisor.
Carousell trimmed about 10% of its total workforce in late 2022. CEO and co-founder Quek Siu Rui said at the time that he had been “too optimistic” about the pace of the firm’s impact compared to its “increase in investments.”
The classifieds giant has been targeting the niche recommerce segment in recent years, but it has also faced competition from a growing number of similar startups in Southeast Asia, which resell items from clothes and sneakers to electronic devices.
