Facebook has opened its first office in the Philippines.
Facebook’s vice president for Asia-Pacific Dan Neary announced the move on his Facebook page on Wednesday and during a press conference held in Manila on Thursday.
The Philippines is clearly an important market for the social networking giant, he says. He counts around 49 million Filipino Facebook users – equivalent to 91 percent of the population with internet access.
Dan adds that the Manila office will grow the number of Facebook’s business partners in the archipelago.
More than 32 million Filipinos are connected to a business page on Facebook and 95 percent of Facebook users in the Philippines discover new products and brands through the platform, Facebook notes in a separate statement.

Facebook has appointed Digs Dimagiba, former Samsung mobile business director, to lead its Manila operations.
“The Philippines is a country that has seen a tremendous growth in connectivity in recent years, creating one of the world’s most highly engaged online populations. Filipinos on Facebook have 60 percent more friends than global average and send 30 percent more messages when compared globally,” says Digs.
