Good Food Institute launches funding database for alt-protein firms

Good Food Institute (GFI), a global non-profit organization that promotes alternative protein, has launched a database through its Asia-Pacific (APAC) arm, which lists down the funding schemes offered by the Singaporean government to faux meat players.

The database was built by GFI APAC, along with FoodInnovate⁠, which is a joint initiative by various Singapore government bodies and non-profit firms.

Alt-protein startups can look up information on funding schemes based on their need and development stage, with some programs open to firms outside the city-state as well. Companies can also search for data that can help them bring in foreign talent and land R&D funding, among other needs.

“Singapore has emerged as the global model for how to effectively accelerate research and production of alternative proteins, so startups would be wise to take full advantage of the vital resources the city-state’s government has made available,” says Mirte Gosker, acting managing director for GFI APAC.

In 2021, alternative protein funding hit US$312 million in value for APAC, recording a 92% growth. However, product pricing remains an issue as faux meat still costs higher in general.
