  • AI text-to-video generation platforms compete for dominance in 2026 as a bubble looms
  • The rise of Asia’s own AI video generation platforms
  • A chance for your young startup to be featured on Tech in Asia

Hello reader,

Merriam-Webster’s word of the year for 2025 was slop, which goes to show how prevalent AI-generated content has become.

Personally, AI slop makes me think of AI-generated videos. Ever since Sora 2 and Veo 3 came out last year, my social media feeds have been flooded with AI-generated videos, and “slop” is a fitting word to capture the experience of watching such content.

It can be entertaining for sure, but then I catch a glaring error in the video, and the illusion is gone.

Our top story today looks at the future for AI-generated video firms and whether the good times for them can keep rolling.

As just one example, Dashverse, an India-based media platform specializing in producing AI-generated microdramas, drew 20 million app downloads since launching last year. All in all, AI text-to-video platforms have attracted US$3.2 billion worth of funding since 2020.

In my report, I seek to answer one question: With so many players rushing to use this technology, is there a bubble?

Academics are unconvinced that we’re there just yet, but economists, especially in the West, have said that AI as a whole may be teetering on that point. Still, experts say that even if that bubble bursts, the tech will be here to stay.

And so will the slop, of course.
