RedDoorz launches long-term co-living service in Indonesia

Budget hotel operator RedDoorz announced that it has launched KoolKost, an affordable and long-term co-living service that allows customers to rent rooms under flexible leases.

It aims to provide quality community-type living spaces for young professionals and college students in major metropolitan cities in Indonesia.

“In recent years, increased urbanization partnered with rising home prices has led to a demand for kost-type accommodation in Indonesia, particularly amongst millennials and Gen Zs who live and work in Indonesia’s busiest cities such as Jakarta, Surabaya, and Yogyakarta,” said Adil Mubarak, vice president of operations at RedDoorz.

Kost is a local term in Indonesia that refers to a room for rent.

According to the statement, KoolKost provides a 24-hour customer service, complimentary high-speed WiFi access, room cleaning service, and unlimited filtered drinking water. All rooms are en-suite with a personal bathroom and are equipped with a comfortable bed and ample storage spaces.

RedDoorz has been trialling the service since last year. The company claims that property owners in the pilot program saw an increase in room occupancy, with an average uplift of more than 30%.

KoolKost now operates over 100 properties in 14 cities across Indonesia, with plans to expand further in 2020, the company said in a statement. A dedicated website for the service will be available for bookings starting March this year.

Founded in 2015, RedDoorz offers affordable accommodations in Indonesia, Singapore, the Philippines, and Vietnam.

Last year, it raised US$45 million in a series B funding round led by Chinese venture capital firm Qiming Venture Partners. It was followed by a US$70 million series C raise in August 2019, a round that can help the company take on its regional rival Oyo, which plans to invest US$100 million in Indonesia.
