Rising SE Asian startups: Instarem raises $41m, ex-Uber CEO gets involved, and more

Which are the startups that are on the path to becoming the next big thing? In this regular post, we give you an overview of the companies that have raised money in the past week, as well as those we think investors should look at.

1. Instarem (Singapore)

Instarem, a fintech startup that enables cross-border money transfers, closed its US$41 million series C round. Vertex Growth Fund led the funding round, with Atinum Investment participating in the latest investment. More info.

2. AnyMind (Singapore)

AnyMind Group, an AI solutions provider, closed its US$21.4 million series B round with funding from VGI Global Media and Tokyo Century. It also acquired Moindy Digital, a Thai influencer marketing network. More info.

3. Kargo (Indonesia)

Logistics startup Kargo received funding from Uber co-founder and ex-CEO Travis Kalanick through the latter’s 10100 Fund. The funds are part of a US$7.6 million seed round that Kargo raised, led by Sequoia Capital India. More info.

4. Groupin (Cambodia)

Groupin raised US$5 million in a series A funding round from Belt Road Capital Management. This could be Cambodia’s largest funding round for a startup to date. Groupin owns e-commerce company Little Fashion and digital media firm Mediaload. More info.

5. Zuzu Hospitality Solutions (Singapore)

Zuzu Hospitality Solutions raised a US$3.7 million series A round led by Wavemaker Partners with participation from Access Ventures, Alpha JWC Ventures, Convergence Ventures, Golden Gate Ventures, and Line Ventures. More info.

6. FireVisor (Singapore)

FireVisor, a startup that provides AI-driven software for large manufacturing companies, raised a six-digit seed round led by the 500 Startups Durians II Fund and Acequia Capital. SGI and Entrepreneur First participated in the round. More info.

7. Mobilkamu (Indonesia)

Mobilkamu, an online platform for buying new cars, raised a series A round for an undisclosed amount. The investment was led by East Ventures and Genesia Ventures with participation from Denali Mitra. More info.

8. NewCampus (Singapore)

NewCampus is a co-learning startup with a membership-based subscription model. It combines virtual and offline education by delivering learning sessions to groups of up to 15 professionals. More info.

9. Horizon Quantum Computing (Singapore)

Horizon Quantum Computing aims to help coders write quantum computing software without the need for extensive training. It aims to make software development for quantum computers as easy as FORTRAN and C++. More info.

10. Dana Cita (Indonesia)

Fintech startup Dana Cita, which offers an online platform for student loans, expanded to the Philippines. It will operate under a localized brand name, Bukas. More info.

11. FastGo (Vietnam)

Ride-hailing app FastGo is entering Singapore, competing in a space dominated by Grab and Go-Jek. It will charge drivers a subscription fee instead of collecting a percentage of fares. More info.
