While one might typically expect the structured networking sessions such as Startup-Investor Speed Dating to reap the most results, don’t be too quick to dismiss the informal chit chat.

A past conference attendee, Stuart Lansdale and founder of RoomFilla, shared with us his experience of how he caught up with someone who popped by his startup booth earlier in the day over drinks. While no business transaction transpired during the post-conference networking session, they managed to stay friends and met up again five months later. Eventually, this friend invested in Stuart’s startup.

Case in point: while you might not be able to shake hands on a deal immediately, you never know how the new friends you clink glasses with might just open new doors, either now or in the near future. If nothing, at least you’ll have a good time – and it doesn’t hurt that Singapore is home to one of Asia’s most vibrant nightlife scene.
