In brief: Investor Tony Fadell to increase investments in Asia
- Iphone co-creator Tony Fadell is looking to increase investments in Asia through his investment firm Future Shape, which has funded more than 200 startups, Bloomberg reports.
- Fadell has visited a startup incubator in Hyderabad and biotech labs in Singapore. He also invested in fintech startups after seeing how Indonesians get by without bank accounts or credit cards. He’s excited about an unnamed battery company and is evaluating startups trying to deal with plastic waste in Asia.
- However, Fadell said he avoids making direct investments in China as he finds the sheer number of startups in the country difficult to process.
- Fadell formed Future Shape in 2014, around the time when he sold his own company Nest Labs to Google for US$3.2 billion.
