Peter Ong, chair of the government agency Enterprise Singapore (EnterpriseSG), will retire from his role on March 31, 2024 after serving in the agency for nearly six years.

EnterpriseSG, which operates under the Ministry of Trade and Industry, also plans to change its leadership model from the current structure of a non-executive chair and a CEO to an executive chair and a managing director.

With this, Lee Chuan Teck, the current EnterpriseSG CEO, will be appointed as the executive chair on April 1. The agency’s new managing director will be announced at a later time.

Ong first assumed office in April 2018. He led the agency to provide support for Singapore enterprises of all sizes, including startups.

Some initiatives from the agency under his leadership include the Scale-Up program to accelerate the growth of high-potential companies, as well as the Open Innovation Network that connects startups, researchers, and corporates to address challenges.

“His distinguished leadership and strategic foresight have been instrumental in guiding both EnterpriseSG and the broader public service towards success,” said Gan Kim Yong, Singapore’s Minister of Trade and Industry, in a statement.

Before his time at EnterpriseSG, Ong spent more than 30 years in the public sector. He is also a board member of the Monetary Authority of Singapore and a senior advisor at the Boston Consulting Group.
