Major trading platforms like OKX and Binance are set to list WLD, the native token of Worldcoin, a cryptocurrency project co-founded by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman.
Deposits were enabled earlier today on both platforms, while withdrawals are tentatively set for tomorrow. Huobi and Bybit are among the other exchanges supporting the token.
Worldcoin aims to create a global network for identity and finance using iris scans and tokens.
It uses an orb-like device that scans people’s irises to create a unique digital identity called World ID. They can then use this ID to sign in to their different accounts, mobile apps, and other crypto platforms.
These devices are currently used across 121 locations in Spain, Kenya, Singapore, Japan, Germany, Uganda, France, India, United Arab Emirates, and the US. Worldcoin aims to bring 1,500 orbs to 20 countries.
The company, however, has drawn criticism over the privacy risks that come with its identification system. Worldcoin has said the system does not store actual iris images and distills individual patters into data instead.
Nonetheless, the company said it already has 2 million sign-ups for World ID and has processed more than 40,000 identity verifications over the last six months of its beta launch.
Users can download the World App through GooglePlay and Apple’s App Store. The app also gives users access to other digital and traditional currencies such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, and stablecoins.
