The Walt Disney Company announced that it’s set to roll out its video-on-demand service Disney+ in Singapore on February 23 next year.
It also plans to launch Star, its new streaming service, as part of its brand lineup on Disney+, according to a statement.

“The Disney+ launch in Singapore will be the global day-and-date launch with general entertainment offering ‘Star,’ which will be added alongside content from Disney, Marvel, Pixar, Star Wars, and National Geographic,” said The Walt Disney Company Asia Pacific regional lead for emerging markets Amit Malhotra.
The subscription service is priced at S$11.98 (US$9) a month or S$119.98 (US$90) a year.
The company previously said it plans to roll out Disney+ worldwide through 2021. With its launch in Singapore, it is set to go up against offerings from Netflix, Amazon, Apple, HBO, and Viu.
Disney’s announcement came months after the company started hiring for several positions in Singapore and Indonesia. The Netflix competitor had been advertising for managerial and creative positions in these countries as early as June of this year.
The launch follows Disney+’s roll out in India in April, charging users in the country 1,499 Indian rupees (US$20.35) for a year. The service was launched through Hotstar, a Disney owned video-streaming platform that it acquired as part of its deal with Fox.
In October, Hotstar announced that it was going to launch in Singapore in the following month. As opposed to Disney+, Hotstar said it would focus on sports and Indian entertainment content.
Malhotra made the announcement and discussed the move during this year’s Tech in Asia Conference.
