Disney’s video-streaming platform Hotstar to launch in Singapore in November

Hotstar – a video-streaming platform in India owned by The Walt Disney Company – announced that it will be launching its services in Singapore on November 1. Amit Malhotra, regional lead at Disney+, made the announcement and discussed the move during the Tech in Asia Conference earlier today.

Once Hotstar launches, audiences in Singapore will have access to content such as live cricket games, movie premiers, original series and movies, shows from Hotstar operator Star India’s TV network, and live news.

Just last month, Hotstar was launched in the Indonesian market.

Malhotra said that the platform has allowed Disney+ – the entertainment giant’s streaming service – to integrate local content onto the platform much easier and was the reason behind launching Hotstar across the Southeast Asian market.

Hotstar’s services in Singapore will be priced at a fee of S$69.98 (US$51.54) annually and will be available on Android as well as iOS devices. Users will also have access to two simultaneous streams and unlimited downloads (excluding live feeds) per device, the company said in a statement.

The streaming service has collaborated with StarHub for the launch. With this, all StarHub Indian+ subscribers on a 12 or 24-month contract will get access to Hotstar at no additional charges.

Hotstar features over 85,000 hours of premium content, including ad-free viewing of more than 2,000 movies and 900 TV shows.
