TSMC’s $100b US investment driven by customer demand, CEO says
Taiwanese chipmaker TSMC has announced a US$100 billion investment plan in the US, citing strong demand from American customers, according to CEO C.C. Wei.
Wei confirmed that production lines at the new US facilities are fully booked through 2027.
Despite this expansion, he emphasized that growth in Taiwan would continue, with 11 new production lines planned this year, compared to three additional lines in the US.
This announcement occurs amid growing geopolitical tensions over semiconductors. Taiwan’s industry dominance raises concerns about over-reliance and pressure from China.
