Nintendo shares drop 10% on Trump tariff fears
Shares of Nintendo Co. and Sony Group Corp. dropped by more than 10% in Tokyo on Apr. 7.
This decline followed comments from United States President Donald Trump regarding the continuation of tariffs on imports without significant trade policy changes.
The selloff occurs at a critical moment for Nintendo. The company recently unveiled its next-generation Switch 2 console.
Nintendo has postponed US pre-orders for the console while assessing the impact of potential tariffs.
Much of the hardware for the Switch is made in China and Vietnam, where exports to the US could face tariffs exceeding 46%.
