Nintendo profit misses forecast, cuts Switch sales outlook
Nintendo reported disappointing financial results for its fiscal third quarter, ending December 2024.
Revenue reached 432.92 billion yen (US$2.8 billion), missing the projected 498.22 billion yen (US$3.2 billion).
Net profit declined 6% year-over-year to 128.53 billion yen (US$826 million), below the forecasted 136.16 billion yen (US$876 million).
The company further reduced its full-year Nintendo Switch sales forecast to 11 million units, down from 12.5 million, and lowered its net profit outlook by 10% to 270 billion yen (US$1.74 billion).
Despite these challenges, Nintendo is shifting focus to its next-generation console, tentatively called the Switch 2, with more details expected during Nintendo Direct on Apr. 2.
This transition underscores the company’s efforts to sustain momentum as Switch sales decline after nearly eight years on the market.
