Foxconn eyes collaboration over acquisition with Nissan
Foxconn chairman Young Liu said on Feb.12 that the company is not looking to acquire Nissan but is open to collaboration and may consider taking a stake to support a partnership.
This is Foxconn’s first public confirmation of discussions with Nissan, which recently ended merger talks with Honda and is exploring new partnerships, including with Foxconn and Renault.
Foxconn, known as Apple’s main supplier, is expanding into electric vehicles but does not plan to become a branded automaker, focusing instead on design and manufacturing services.
Nissan and Renault declined to comment, while Nissan shares fell 6% and Foxconn shares closed down 1.1% after Liu’s remarks.
