Yesterday, I wrote about how Netease’s upcoming shooter Crisis 2015 is looking to hire testers in South Korea, indicating the the company is planning to launch the game outside of China. But it turns out that two more of the company’s biggest new games may also be getting the global rollout: Dragon Sword, an upcoming fantasy MMORPG, and Heroes of the Three Kingdoms, a new MOBA game. Earlier this week Netease announced that along with Crisis 2015, those two games will be making an appearance at South Korea’s upcoming GSTAR gaming conference.
In fact, Netease has already confirmed its increased focus on the global gaming market, and has apparently got two dedicated teams working on making its global dreams a reality. It seems that South Korea is the company’s most immediate goal, as it has a dedicated team for South Korea and another “global” team working on releases elsewhere, but there’s hope that some of Netease’s best online games could be made available in a lot of places over the next few years.
It’s good to see a Chinese developer thinking globally, but the next question — of course — will be whether or not Netease’s games are actually good enough to get the attention of the global gaming community. The three games it is showing at GSTAR (Crisis 2015, Dragon Sword, and Heroes of the Three Kingdoms) are probably its best hopes at the moment, but we’ve seen very little of Dragon Sword and Crisis 2015 and international gamers have yet to get their hands on Heroes of the Three Kingdoms, so it is difficult to say whether or not Netease has a chance of winning in the highly competitive global MMORPG, FPS and MOBA markets (respectively).
