“It was not easy saying no to Super Bowl ads, stadium naming rights, large sponsor deals a few months ago, but we did. Today, we are hiring for 2,000 open positions for Binance,” Zhao tweeted.
The development comes amid a broad economic slowdown and a crypto winter that has seen layoffs across the tech sector as companies tighten belts. At the same time, US-based crypto exchange Kraken also said it would be filling over 500 roles globally.
Binance had made aggressive moves in the region this quarter. It formed a joint venture with a Thai power firm to enter the local market and is set to expand operations in the Philippines. It also plans to work with crypto exchanges to expand into the Malaysian market.
Meanwhile, the crypto exchange has also partnered TripleA to allow its merchants to accept crypto payments without having to pay handling fees. Binance was also recently signed on as the official crypto exchange partner of the Grammy Awards.
