New Study Says Seoul is the Internet’s ‘Most Evil City’

A study from the Netherlands has attempted to determine the most dangerous cities on the internet, or more specifically, which cities are responsible for most security incidents. The research was conducted by using 125 machines as ‘honeypots,’ and then recording the attack data over a one week period.

The results of the study are interesting. As you might expect, China comfortably led all nations with 2532 attacks in that week, with Brazil and the United States just behind with 1943 and 1815 attacks respectively. But looking at the city-specific data, we see that the title of ‘most evil city’ is actually Seoul, South Korea, with 735 attacks.

Taipei takes the second position with 618 attacks, with Beijing, China following in third with 563. It is important to note, however, that Guangzhou and Shanghai also made the top 20, with 219 and 210 attacks respectively.
