Grab will close its quick commerce service GrabMart Kilat in Bandung, Indonesia next month. The Southeast Asian super app currently has two stores that run the service in that city.

A Grab spokesperson told Tech in Asia that the decision comes after the company found out that its users in the city prefer a wider grocery selection that can be delivered in one hour, rather than having fewer options that can be delivered in half of the time. Grab will focus on expanding its third-party GrabMart marketplace instead.
“We believe this move will provide Bandung users with more options and a better grocery delivery experience while enabling us to focus on scaling GrabMart Kilat in Greater Jakarta, where we continue to see strong consumer adoption,” the spokesperson said.
The spokesperson added that Grab sees a lot of potential in grocery delivery in Southeast Asia, and it has been testing different delivery models in different cities to find the best product-market fit.

Grab launched GrabMart Kilat earlier this year in Greater Jakarta and Bandung. Through the service, users can order groceries and daily necessities that will be delivered in 30 minutes from its network of dark stores.
Despite ending operations in Bandung, Grab is still offering the service in Greater Jakarta. It currently has 17 stores in the region and plans to open more.
