Adaptive learning platform KnowRe nails $6.8M to help math students get their As

knowre adaptive learning platform raises $6.8 million

Adaptive learning platform KnowRe – based in both the US and South Korea – today announced it has raised US$6.8 million in funding. Existing investor SoftBank Ventures Korea led the round, while KTB Network, Partners Investment, and SparkLabs Global Ventures joined in. The company raised $1.4 million in seed funding from SoftBank Ventures early last year.

Hailing from Korean-American accelerator SparkLabs, KnowRe officially launched in March after the team spent a year beta-testing the platform across middle and high schools in the US.

In an official statement, co-founder and co-CEO David Joo says that demand has been strong so far, and that the funds will be used to scale their distribution in the US. The money will also go towards furthering product developments and offerings for the US, Korea, and broader Asian markets as well, according to Joo.

KnowRe was born from a desire to integrate technology into education, and to foster personalised learning for math students. The platform assesses individual students’ strengths and weaknesses through a series of question-and-answers sessions – the questions are generated in real-time via an algorithm.

Once all the necessary data has been collected, it will create review sheets for the respective students, highlighting the concepts that they need to work on.

“The investment enables us to broaden our mission of personalising education for each individual student while providing teachers and students with the data and tools to help deliver differentiated instruction to all of their students,” says YJ Kim, also co-founder and co-CEO of KnowRe.
