Indonesia’s online food delivery industry received a jolt today with news that Klik-Eat has been acquired for an undisclosed amount by current stakeholder Yume no Machi Souzou Iinkai (2484:JASDAQ) (hat-tip to DailySocial). The latter firm has increased its stake in Klik-Eat from 19 percent to 55.4 percent. Following the purchase, Yume No Machi, IMJ Partners, and a private investor will together own a combined of 80 percent stake in Klik-Eat.

Yume no Machi invested in Klik-Eat in January 2013. Since then, it has helped Klik-Eat by sharing industry know-how in management and marketing. In an official statement, Yume no Machi – which also runs a large scale online food delivery business in Japan – claims that it has helped Klik-Eat achieve 201.4 percent year-on-year growth when it comes to store numbers, and 156.7 percent growth in order numbers (though we take these percent figures with a grain of salt, of course). Klik-Eat is currently working with over 500 restaurant partners.

Co-founders Michael Saputra and Willy Haryanto will continue to lead the company after the acquisition. Saputra tells Tech in Asia that founding partner Andrew Pangestan will no longer be involved in Klik-Eat’s day-to-day operations due to “family business.”

Klik-Eat is now operating in Jakarta and Bandung. Saputra says that the investment will be used mostly to expand domestically and grow the company’s corporate sales business. He is gearing up to enter West Jakarta and Kelapa Gading soon.

Klik-Eat has a spin off business that offers online catering for corporate events called PapaBento. Klik-Eat’s biggest competitor is Rocket Internet’s Foodpanda.
