Introducing Tech in Asia Originals: Stories for Asia’s Startup and Tech Community

I’m a firm believer in the power of storytelling. Our stories define who we are, show how far we’ve come, and shape where we’re going.

Here at Tech in Asia, our goal has always been to tell the story of Asia’s tech and startup community.

That’s why we’ve invested relentlessly in our content, from our premium long-form articles and fun, relatable newsletters to insightful visual stories, thoughtful podcasts, and in-depth reports. We seek to tell as many stories in as many formats as possible, in the most engaging and informative ways possible.

Last week, we launched another story format: TIA Originals. The thought bubble for this project started when we realized that there was a gap in the ever-growing video space. There was so much great video content – both educational and inspiring – coming out of other tech hubs, but where were the videos featuring Asian startups and founders? So we got to work.

Of course, every story needs a protagonist – the character at the center of action who drives the plot forward. To represent Asia’s tech scene, we sought out tech leaders with journeys that feel authentic to the community. Whether they were born and raised in Asia or they’re expatriates who want to create an impact in the region, their faces and experiences have a bit of our own truths in them. By showcasing what they’ve accomplished, we hope to help everyone see possibilities for themselves and their future.

Our goals are lofty, but the process is humble. After spending a year in development, we’re proud to finally launch our TIA Originals video series, starting with Tech in Asia Explains.

We have some more projects lined up for 2021, so watch this space for exciting, insightful, and Asian tech and startup stories!

Introducing Season 1 of Tech in Asia Explains

Tech in Asia Explains is a series dedicated to defining those shiny startup concepts that everyone somehow seems to just magically know.

We’ll look into buzzwords, break down ideas, offer up examples, and bring in leading Asian tech and startup players to share their perspectives.

For the premiere season, we’ll begin with the basics – startup basics. We thought about what aspiring founders should know as they go through the lifecycle of a startup and went deep on those topics. Expect to see episodes covering Startup 101 subjects like unit economics, valuation, and cap tables, among others.

Our first episode delves into the different sources of startup funding. For first-time founders, few things can be as confusing as finding capital and weighing the pros and cons of each potential source. Listen to experts like ShopBack co-founder and CEO Henry Chan, AppWorks partner Jessica Liu, and Jungle Ventures managing partner David Gowdey as they talk about how to make the best choices for your startup.

We have more in store for you this season, and we’ll be releasing these episodes biweekly on our revamped videos page. We love getting your feedback, so as always, let us know what kind of stories resonate with you. Stay tuned and happy viewing! 🙂
