With US acquisitions, SingPost is now a global ecommerce company

Singapore’s national and logistics company SingPost is waging a global campaign to conquer ecommerce, and it just added another notch on its belt. The Singaporean company announced today it has acquired US end-to-end ecommerce firm Trade Global. The news comes only days after SingPost announced the acquisition of a majority stake in another US company, logistics provider Jagged Peak.

Through subsidiary TG Acquisition Corporation, SingPost is acquiring 96.3 percent of Trade Global, the company says. The size of the deal is approximately S$236 million (US$168.6 million).

Trade Global provides a full range of ecommerce services for companies in the fashion, beauty, and lifestyle spaces. The company handles all stages of the ecommerce process, from design, web development, and copywriting, to omni-channel, logistics, and customer care services. Its clients include brands like Calvin Klein, Hugo Boss, Illy, Shiseido, Puma, and more.

The deal will allow SingPost’s clients in Asia to expand their ecommerce business to the US, while Trade Global’s network gets access to new markets in the region, the company says.

See: Here’s SingPost’s grand plan to rule ecommerce in Asia“Full service ecommerce solutions have traditionally been geographically confined. This acquisition will offer a one-stop solution for brands to grow their businesses globally,” adds SingPost eCommerce CEO Marcelo Wesseler. “[It] strengthens our ecommerce logistics platform by enhancing our scalability and capabilities, for instance, to handle major surges in traffic and transactions during peak shopping seasons.”

This is the latest in a series of aggressive moves by SingPost to dominate the ecommerce space in Southeast Asia and, it seems, beyond. Past actions include kicking off plans on an ecommerce logistics hub in Singapore worth S$182 million (US$134 million), partnering with Indonesian telco Trikomsel, investing in Australian ecommerce company Hubbed, and getting Alibaba on board as an investor.

The company previously said it aims to run its ecommerce division like a startup, attracting technology talent and investing in tech infrastructure. Just last week it announced it has begun testing delivery by drone. A longtime goal of giants like Amazon, drone technology could be a significant piece of the ecommerce puzzle. SingPost seems to want to get as many pieces in its hands as possible.
