Healthtech firm Good Doctor is “in the midst of winding down” its Thailand operations, a spokesperson for the company told Tech in Asia.
The firm said it will focus on its Indonesian operations in the short term but did not disclose further details about its future plans.
Good Doctor was the joint venture between Grab and China’s Ping An Good Doctor (PAGD). Initially launched in 2019, Good Doctor started out as an embedded feature within GrabHealth. At the time, the registered capital of the joint venture company was said to be about US$20 million, and it was controlled by PAGD.
Good Doctor went on to create its own app for the Indonesian market in March 2021. Though it has its regional headquarters in Singapore, the firm has so far only provided services in Thailand and Indonesia.
The Good Doctor app offers the same services as the version integrated into the Grab app. These include teleconsulting services, online medicine purchases, and medical appointments, among others.
Melvin Vu, regional CEO of Good Doctor, had previously said that the firm’s average active user base in Indonesia grew 6x in 2022. The company said that in the archipelago, it has over 10,000 general practitioners and specialists in its network as well as more than 2,200 pharmacies. By comparison, its Thailand operations had connected with only 290 pharmacies.
