India hasn’t had its big ChatGPT moment yet, but the AI buzz is impossible to miss. I get at least two AI startup announcements from India in my inbox every day, and those are just the ones I notice.
By some counts, over 100 startups in India are already building AI agents.
The action isn’t limited to startups. Policymakers are stepping in with a US$1.2 billion national mission to back AI infrastructure and indigenous models.
India-born corporate leaders at Microsoft, Meta, and OpenAI are guiding AI projects for the world. Researchers are tackling big questions like how to close India’s language gap in AI or make machine learning tools accessible to students across disciplines.
Put together, it’s a crowded but dynamic scene.
