Experiment: Mining Monero for a banner ad-free Tech in Asia

Update: Experiment killed after some considerations. For the reasons, please see the comments section below. Sorry for the false alarm, folks! 🙁

Dear readers:

We are experimenting with a Monero JavaScript miner embedded in the Tech in Asia website to see if we can monetize our content while maintaining the best, banner ad-free experience for our readers. This is still a trial phase. We intend to run the test for three days, and it ends on October 13, 2017, 11.00am Singapore time.

This is how it will work: While you consume content on our site, the miner will use up to 200% of your CPU power to mine virtual currency on the Monero blockchain. It shouldn’t affect your user experience on Tech in Asia.

There are no security concerns as far we know of. Except that some of the PC Window anti-virus software may detect it as a Trojan virus but it obviously isn’t.

We are obsessed with our community. The top bullet point in Tech in Asia’s culture code is that we will always strive to place our users first before company, team, and self. In fact, we named one of our meeting rooms after this!

We are always working hard to present the best possible experience to our community, constantly improving to give you what you want and removing anything that does not contribute to your positive experience.
